In his column in The Times today, David Brooks said that President Obama faces “such a devilishly complex set of constraints” on Afghanistan that whatever he said tonight would surely be “partially unsatisfying to every American and to every member of his administration.” You certainly get that sense reading the blogs and other online commentary.

Many on the left are thoroughly displeased with the president’s decision to increase troop levels there, even though they readily backed him during last year’s election. MoveOn.org is urging its members to send an email to the White House to “Tell the president that we want him to focus on bringing our troops home, not escalating our involvement in Afghanistan.”

Zimbabweans joined the international community Tuesday in marking World Aids Day, focusing on making life-saving antiretroviral drugs available to all who need them.

The National Aids Council joined teamed up with non-governmental organizations fighting HIV/AIDS, the Ministry of Health and others to mark the day in Victoria Falls under the banner of “universal access and human rights.”
