We already have a very hot Android device available and we call it the Droid. Motorola’s phone has quickly managed to become the most talked about phone in the industry. Verizon has sold around 300,000 units in the first week and the carrier will sell even more Droids in the near future.
But what would happen once Google launches its own Android phone? Will the Google Phone beat the Droid? Until the Google Phone arrives we are more likely to see the HTC Dragon/Passion in action. It seems that the Dragon/Passion is being tested by the senior Android guys at Google which means we could see the phone become official in the following weeks. Let’s move on to the Google Phone! It seems that the device is being developed by Google and it will be available through retailers at some point in 2010. Google is working with a Korean phone manufacturer like LG or Samsung on the Google Phone. HTC is one other possible manufacturer of the phone but that sounds less likely considering that HTC is developing its own line of Android phones. No specs and features of the Google Phone have been leaked so far but we certainly hope it will be an impressive device. Google is certainly taking on a huge gamble with a Google Phone. The device should be almost flawless and it should become a true iPhone competitor. Is Google ready for such a task? So far we’ve seen the BlackBerry Storm, the Samsung Omnia, the HTC Hero and the Palm Pre failing to properly fight against the iPhone. Now we have handsets like the HTC HD2, the Samsung Omnia II, the BlackBerry Storm2 and especially the Droid that are great iPhone alternatives. But it looks like only the Droid has what it takes in order to stand a chance in front of the iPhone. Which means that not only will the Google Phone have to be better than any Android phone available so far but it will also have to be a lot better than the Droid or the unannounced Dragon/Passion. |
